Atmospheric Vacuum Breakers

Atmospheric vacuum breakers (AVBs) are backflow prevention devices designed to protect potable water systems from contamination caused by back-siphonage. These devices operate by introducing air into the system when negative pressure conditions occur, breaking the vacuum and preventing reverse flow of potentially contaminated water into the clean water supply. AVBs are commonly used in irrigation systems, hose bibbs, laboratory equipment, commercial plumbing, and non-continuous pressure applications where cross-connection control is required. These devices are typically installed downstream of shutoff valves and are designed for vertical installation only to ensure proper atmospheric venting performance. Atmospheric vacuum breakers are widely used in residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal applications where moderate backflow protection is required.
