Retard Chambers

Retard chambers are fire protection system components used primarily in wet pipe sprinkler systems to prevent false alarms caused by transient or fluctuating water pressure conditions. Installed as part of alarm check valve assemblies, retard chambers temporarily store excess water pressure surges before allowing activation of downstream alarm devices, ensuring that only sustained water flow conditions trigger an alarm. Commonly used in commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential fire protection systems, retard chambers improve system reliability and reduce nuisance alarms. These devices are typically used in conjunction with alarm valves, water motor gongs, and water-flow switches and are designed to meet UL Listed and FM Approved fire protection requirements.
